4 Genius Ways to Save Big Money on Your Wedding

Really amazing wedding receptions CAN be planned on a budget. Check out some of these useful tips for being frugal in all the right places.

by Tami Wloch

In no uncertain terms it can be expensive just to say the words, “I do”. But, it is PROBABLY going to be the biggest party you’ll throw in your lifetime, so you’ll want to do what you can to make sure it’s a brilliant event. That doesn’t necessarily mean emptying your savings, either. Really amazing wedding receptions can be planned on a budget if you know where to save (and where to splurge). Check out some of these useful tips for being frugal in all the right places.

Save on printing costs

Save the date notices, invitations with multiple inserts, table cards – the costs can get seriously out of control just for printed materials alone. Luckily, there are definitely ways to save some money here. You can select a less-expensive card stock this still has an elegant feel to it (the printer can help you pick a good one). Instead of including individual information cards within the main invitation, create a wedding website where guests can get all the details on the wedding and reception, as well as RSVP to the event. And if you’re really adventurous, and have some great friends (with good handwriting!) to help, you can save a bundle by addressing the envelopes yourself instead of having them printed.

Have Your Wedding on a Friday, Sunday or During the Off Season

Don’t rule this option out! I mean, sure, if the sky is the limit on your wedding budget and you have a year and a half to plan the big day, then yes, by all means go with a Saturday event. But not everyone is in that position. When you need to find a way to cut costs but you still want guests to have a fabulous time, plan a Friday or Sunday wedding!

One of the biggest advantages to a non-Saturday or off-season wedding (here in Chicago that means January, February or March) is the great discount you can get on your DJ. Like, hundreds less for booking during one of these times. Not to mention the availability factor of your favorite party pro. Saturday nights book up fast, especially for the more experienced DJ’s, so you have a much better chance of snagging the pro you want when you book a Friday or Sunday wedding.
