Making you dance until your feet bleed since 2005
by Mary Nisi
Toast & Jam DJs (a womxn owned company founded in 2005), Chicago’s largest and most epic DJ company, is looking for new DJs! Our clients are incredibly diverse and intersectional and we welcome and encourage applications from DJs that reflect that as well.
To work here you must have have passion for music, but also a deep knowledge of genres and eras. Even more importantly, you must be a self-starter and have impeccable time management skills. Our clients range from those who have very discerning taste to the poppiest of pop, so we need DJs who can be as enthusiastic playing Backstreet Boys as they are playing Big Star. We can and will train you extensively, but you should have a hang of making playlists and/or have some DJ experience or playlist making (radio/bars/clubs/parties/weddings). We are absolutely fine with you having NO professional experience. We hire for attitude and personality and we can turn you into a Toast & Jammer.
It’s fun being a member of our team, but with great fun comes great responsibility. While most of the events that we DJ are on the weekends, this position requires extensive preproduction and communication, which will require daily attention. We give our DJs a lot of independence and autonomy, so you must be a resourceful problem solver, with an extensive Customer Service background (baristas/servers/retail experience, for example). The events are fast-paced and you will have to deliver and perform under major stress and there is no room for failure. While we prefer that applicants have their own equipment, we'll also consider folks without gear. You would be an employee of Toast & Jam, so we are not looking for freelancers.
